Niterra's management strategy

Supporting sustainable growth for future society
through cross-disciplinary technologies

With its core technology centered on ceramics, Niterra Co., Ltd. has been meeting the expectations of customers worldwide.

In the future, we will develop technologies and products that transcend ceramics in four domains
—environment/energy, mobility, medical care, and information and telecommunications—
in order to confront the challenges facing the world and to help realize a better society.

Vision for 2040

To address various social issues, Niterra needs to find a new way that does not focus on "what we can do with ceramics."

By 2040, as a result of rising to challenges beyond the realm of ceramics—challenges beyond popular imagination, beyond our own imagination—we aim to have achieved true change that is not simply an extension of the past.

The “2030 Long-Term Management Plan NITTOKU BX” was formulated by working backward from this "2040 VISION". Having set the direction we need to take by 2040, we have positioned 2030 as a midpoint milestone.

Changes in external business environment

According to global forecasts of new vehicle sales and vehicle ownership, the number of vehicles with internal combustion engines is expected to increase until around 2030.

However, in the mid-2030s, it will begin to slowly decline. Therefore, by the mid-2030s, we will need to have shifted to a business structure not reliant on products designed for internal combustion engines.

Transforming our business portfolio

At present, our business is centered on the internal combustion engine sector, but in the future, we will need to confront the challenge of new business and transform our business structure, moving beyond internal combustion engine-related business. Specifically, by 2040 we aim to have transformed our business portfolio by reducing our ratio of internal combustion engine-related business from its current rate of 80% to 40% and increasing our ratio of non-internal combustion engine-related business from 20% to 60%. Under our 2030 Long-Term Management Plan NITTOKU BX, in order to achieve our 2040 targets, we intend to bring internal combustion engine-related business to 60% and non-internal combustion engine-related business to 40% by the milestone year of 2030.

Fields of business

We are focusing on four business domains: Environment & Energy, Mobility, Medical, and Communication. These include not only new areas, but also existing areas of business.

To our core competencies of ceramic materials technology, sensing technology, global production, and sales systems, we add new value with "something new" and involve those both inside and outside the company with "open innovation" to grow these four domains.
